When you see the sky-scraping crescents (Hilal) on top of two steeples- then you know you are looking at Masjid Zakariya. These crescents are approxematly 160 ft above ground, perhaps one of the highest Hilals on a Masjid in North-America.
You are entering Masjid Zakariya, a masjid surrounded by more than sixty Muslim families. A masjid with more then 20,000 square feet of covered area with two mezzanines to accommodate sisters.
For many years, hundreds of voices from all across North America echoed day and night in the recitation of the Holy Qur'an. From as far as Edmonton and Calgary in Canada, down to Los Angeles, across and over to Miami, and back up the entire east coast, Muslim teens who were born and raised in North America came together in this Masjid and lit their hearts with the light of al-Qur’an al-Kareem.
Some sacrificed their hometowns and stayed to pass this treasure on to others while some passed away and returned to Allah (Subhanahu Wa-Ta'ala) as Huffaz. The remainder went back to their cities to spread the light of al-Qur’an al-Kareem.
Come visit Masjid Zakariya, which was once a cathedral, and sit where children as young as 12 years old recited the entire Qur'an from heart in one sitting to their teachers. Experience the unexplainable feeling along with many others who leave their cities and homes in the month of Ramadan to perform I’tikaff and rejuvenate themselves here in this Masjid.
Surrounded by the sounds of footsteps at the time of Azaan and the laughter of children playing during the day, come learn why many have moved to enjoy the shade of Masjid Zakariya amidst the heat of endless challenges.
